MARATHON ADVICE & TIPS
Dial in your kit before the big day.
- Nothing new on race day: wear-test your full kit on at least one long run (including your underwear, socks + sports bra).
- Support affects performance: the right level of support can help you feel more comfortable and confident on long runs, especially as fatigue sets in. Choose a higher-impact option for race day to keep you comfortable and supported for longer miles.
- Layer smart: start-line temps can be misleading, plan a light layer you can remove once warm.
- Plan your carry: test pockets with your phone + gels on a long run, making sure you have no bounce, no rubbing and easy access.
- Socks really matter: rotate the exact socks you’ll race in on long runs to spot hot spots early.
- Chafe prevention: ensure your sports bra is fitted by a professional fitter. Remember, your size may change during your training, so take advantage of free fittings a few times throughout your training.

Marathon Kit FAQs
Wear kit you’ve tested on at least one long run. Prioritise a supportive sports bra, hgih-wicking, breathable top, legwear that doesn’t ride up, and socks you trust. Choose fabrics that wick sweat and seams that won’t rub over time. If you expect changing conditions, plan light layers you can remove once you warm up.
Pick a bra that gives high-impact support without restricting your breathing. The band should feel firm (it does most of the support work), straps should stay put without digging in, and the cups should sit smooth with no gaping or spilling.
Get a fitting with a professional bra fitter. Fit is key to prevent chafing. MAAREE comes with a chafe-free guarantee with every fitting. Book your fitting HERE.
Choose legwear that stays put and includes secure storage for essentials (phone, gels, keys) without bounce. Longer inseams can help reduce inner-thigh rubbing, and a stable waistband prevents rolling or slipping as you sweat.
No. Avoid anything brand new. Even comfortable items can start rubbing after an hour. Your race-day kit should be worn and proven in training, ideally on at least one long run that includes sections at race pace.
For cold starts, dress for when you’re moving. Use light layers you can remove once warm. For hot races, keep it minimal and breathable, prioritise sweat management and anti-rub details, and consider a cap and sunglasses for sun exposure.
