Welcome to our special "Behind the Seams" series, where we take a closer look at the inspiration and design process behind our collections. Today, we're excited to share the story behind our first collection, which is all about empowering and celebrating strong, confident women.
The Birth of MAAREE
My name is Mari Thomas, and I am the founder of MAAREE. I have always been passionate about sports and fitness, and as a teenager, I noticed that many girls were dropping out of sports because they felt it was too "masculine" or that they would be made fun of. This broke my heart, because I knew firsthand how much sports had helped me develop confidence, social skills, and key life skills.
I knew I wanted to pursue a career in sports, and the more I chased it, the more women I found who were like me: strong, ambitious, and passionate about sports. This is where the inspiration for MAAREE came from. I wanted to create a brand that would celebrate these women and empower them to be relentless in their pursuit of their goals.
The Female Warrior
At MAAREE, we are all about Female Warriors. We want to emphasize and celebrate the strength and courage of women, and our clothing is designed to reflect this. The seams in our collection are inspired by the armor and clothing worn by female warriors of the past, but we've tweaked and adapted them to suit modern-day sportswear.
We believe that being interested in sports doesn't make you "masculine" or "bossy." It simply means that you are interested in sports. And that is something to be celebrated.
Our Awards
We are thrilled to announce that our Solidarity High-Impact Sports Bra has won 8 "Best in Test" awards, including 6 from Women's Running Magazine UK, 1 from Women's Health Magazine Lab Testing and 1 from Runner's World UK End of Year Gear Awards. As a small business, we are humbled and grateful for the support of our customers and fans.
